Spencer Beach near Pu'ukoholā Heiau

The following photographs of the Transit of Venus were taken on the west coast of Hawaii. My 60mm refractor with 35mm Nikon F film camera at prime focus and Panasonic SDR-T70 camcorder on piggyback was stabilized against the wind by a bottle of distilled water. I was joined by transit photographers from Australia, New Zealand, and Great Britain. Note the clouds overhead. This portrait was taken at 6:10 PM CDT (1:10PM HST) while "sucker" holes kept me from polar aligning on the sun and starting a continuous record with the camcorder.
